STIUQXELA Update

Since the NFL draft was this past weekend, I thought it was appropriate to update the STIUQXELA keyword competition seeing as it has to do with the Green Bay Packers website. I have since fallen to the second page of the search, but thats okay, i haven't posted about it for a while so i am confident i will be back on the first page soon.

Diva Marketing Blog Post

i was reading a post from the Diva Marketing Blog today that announced that a few consumer brands were making the leap into the blogosphere finally. The two that were mentioned were the Marriot hotel and the Carnival Cruise brands. I think given the trend towards the web and technology these days, this is a very effective strategy. Especially in a service oriented company like the ones mentioned, it allows the CEOs to get feedback directly from the consumers and for the consumers to hear about anything new directly from the top. Getting information from the CEO himself creates a sense of accountability and instills confidence in the consumer because it looks like the company places a greater emphasis on service, which is ever so important in this day and age.

Wikipedia edit: Moneyball

today i made my first edit to the Wikipedia article on Moneyball, which is a style of baseball management employed by many teams across the majors, including the Red Sox of course, or else i probably wouldn't be editing the article in the first place. all i did was to add a little piece to the central premise of the concept of Moneyball. This managing style places greater emphasis on stats such as slugging percentage and on base percentage. i added that there isn't a lot of sacrificing at all, because the team would rather wait for a homerun or big hit to score runs instead of waste an at bat with a sacrifice bunt.

STIUQXELA Update

just to update you on our STIUQXELA project, i finally made it onto the search results page for STIUQXELA after posting for the first time about a week ago. i actually made it to the 8th spot which kinda surprised me.

Class post

Today in class we briefly talked a little about how the web and other technologies played a part in the communication process in Monday's tragedy at Virginia Tech. In my other class we are talking about communications and how they are used in crisis situations, and one of the most important things is for the information to filter from the top down in an organization. so if we were to apply it to the Virginia Tech case, maybe there should have been better communication from the president to the students about the days events and maybe something could have been prevented. however, it was the students who did most of the communicating mostly through network sites such as Facebook. i guess cell phone signals were jamming often too due to the large volume of calls that people were making and after a while students began to post on their Facebook profiles whether they were okay or not. i just thought this was an interesting use of technology in a situation that you would never think of. and to close i would like to offer my condolences to those affected by that tragedy, my hearts and prayers are with all of you.

PowerPoint

I was reading Lydia's blog just now and saw that she made a post about an article she read from Slashdot that really caught my eye. It was about the fact that it is very difficult to fully comprehend what is being taught to you when it is presented to you in written and spoken form at the same time. Due to how the brian works, which i am not going to get into mostly due to the fact that I just dont know, it cannot multitask effectively. Our memory can only handle a few tasks at once, which is very true for me, usually it's only one at a time. Anyway it brought to my attention the fact that some professors dont have their slides posted anywhere for their students making it difficult to get everything down and understand what the information is telling us, or the message the teacher is trying to get across. Some post the slides after class so we can look at them and study from them later, some post them before class so those students who want to print them off and take notes on them in class may do so, and well theres some that dont even use them. Maybe they just dont know how and think it would too much of a hassle with all the technical difficulties that arise. Thats why in class i just try to listen to the professor, take notes if I think I need to, but really just listen because its what they say in class that is most likely going to be on the test and having the slides available to look at makes a big difference to me so thank you professor Brown for posting slides and i wish all others would do the same.

Wikipedia Edits 2,3,4

I have fallen behind a little bit in terms of my Wikipedia edits so I decided to catch up quickly by editing 3 of my articles and blogging them all here instead of 3 separate posts, hope that is okay.
Anyway I edited the article on my High School for the second time adding the fact that during the same season they lost for the first time in 52 games, they lost their first league game on Thanksgiving day after winning 59 straight.
My first edit to the MasterCard page consisted of a change to the start of their 'Priceless' campaign, which first aired during the World Series in 1997, not in 1996 as the article previously stated.
And finally, my first edit to the Volcano page was that I edited the section on converging plate boundaries a little to give a bit more detail in terms of what happens and how.

Thats all for now, I still have one more article to edit as a part of this project so expect a few more edits in the coming days and weeks.

Global Neighbourhoods: Don Imus

Now I never listened to his radio or TV programming so I dont really know what kind of a man Don Imus really was when he isn't making racist comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team, but that doesn't matter anymore. Now as the article states, "neither regulation, nor ethical codes have been necessary" to remove Imus from his position in the media world. The only thing that has happened is a mass cry from the public, some using blogs to voice their opinion that the man needed to be fired. I think this really shows the power of interactive media these days. CBS and MSNBC are trying to salvage their image by firing Imus because the general public believes he should be. There might be many negative consequences if they hadn't done so as many consumers would have looked down upon those companies and linked them to racist ideals, which is never good for business. Here's the article that i refer to - Don Imus

keyword for project: STIUQXELA

To you STIUQXELA probably looks like a jumble of letters randomly pulled out of a hat, for me however, it is a word that is central to a project for this class. The definition of STIUQXELA is a word that appears no where else on the internet, except on the blogs of anyone in the class (and one person not in the class anymore), and is being used to determine which student's blog carries the most google juice. For those of you looking feverishly for meaning of STIUQXELA, try reading it backwards as it then becomes ALEXQUITS, and this is due to the fact that our professor (Alex) is retiring after this semester. Hopefully I'll do well.
